The .416 Taylor is one of the more modern cartridges for hunting dangerous game in Africa, designed somwhere around 1970 with the goal of replacing the infamous .416 Rigby which launched in 1911, by creating a cartridge that would fit in shorter action rifles. The .416 caliber has long been favoured among professional hunters around Africa over larger calibers due to less recoil and flatter trajectories, while delivering considerably more stopping power and penetration than the smaller calibers.
