Here is our best advice on how to take care of the skin if your beaver hunt turns out to be successful! Feel free to save the guide and good luck on your next beaver hunt!

  • Cut off the feet by the ankle, both front and back. Place an incision around the ankle. When you have found the joint and cut through it, put the knife away and break off the feet, both front and back of the beaver.
  • Add your first cut. Turn the knife over and place your first cut under the lip/chin. Continue like this in as straight a line as possible across the entire abdomen. Round the cloaca on both sides and finish at the tail.
  • Peel one side at a time. Work your way down the side. When skinning a beaver, you can hardly draw anything similar on an ungulate. You have to work the knife all the way through. Round the legs and thread over the skin from the joint.
  • The other side and the back. When one side is finished, do the same on the next. When you've skinned as far down as it goes, turn the beaver over and skin the last of the back. Try to get as little meat as possible on the skin.
